Energy and Climate Policy
Focal Points and Tasks
Following the Paris Agreement more and more countries have also announced the target of climate neutrality at the national level. This is the case for Germany (by 2045) as well as for Canada (by 2050) and the USA (by 2050). While the target is now set, it remains to be seen how this can be achieved. The list of starting points and topics is extensive: from renewable energies and new energy infrastructures to the defossilisation of industry and transport to climate-neutral buildings. Internationally, there are very different answers to current questions of energy and climate policy. Positions on nuclear energy, North Stream 2, carbon pricing,
the "colour classification" of hydrogen or hydraulic fracturing are just some examples; the current EU project on a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) another. To this end, the business community has set up the Transatlantic Business Initiative's Steering Committee on Energy and Climate Policy. It will develop new proposals for cooperation and networking between Germany, the United States and Canada in order to facilitate progress towards achieving the climate goals internationally. The focus will be on carbon pricing, renewable energies, energy efficiency and hydrogen. Last but not least, ideas for a possible further development of the regulatory framework on both sides of the Atlantic will also be considered.
