Transatlantic Business Initiative

About the Transatlantic Business Initiative

The TBI gives companies the opportunity to actively participate in the expansion of transatlantic relations and to develop proposals on selected policy areas for deepening transatlantic cooperation.

Three working groups serve as a forum for this purpose:

  • Geoeconomics
  • Trade Policy and Customs
  • Level Playing Field in the banking and financial sectors

Despite growing skepticism among the German population and changing political conditions, the United States and Canada remain indispensable partners for Germany and the European Union, both politically and economically. Especially in light of increasing protectionist tendencies, trade tensions, and global upheavals, stable and resilient transatlantic relations are of strategic importance. Only together can Europe and North America effectively address the major challenges of our time – from climate change and trade and investment issues to the defense of liberal democracy and human rights.

German business sees itself as an active stakeholder for a stable, forward-looking, and value-based transatlantic agenda. With our expertise, we are committed to close and trusting cooperation between Germany and the EU as well as the US and Canada. Regardless of political differences, we therefore seek to contribute to a constructive transatlantic dialogue.

Our goal is to position Europe and Germany as capable, constructive, and cooperative actors in the international system. We are firmly committed to open markets, fair competition, sustainable economic activity, and shared values – in the knowledge that a strong transatlantic partnership is the foundation for prosperity, stability, and democratic resilience on both sides of the Atlantic.
